Since the advent of On-line Auto / Home / Life Insurance Shopping the emphasis on the decision making process seems to have become limited to Price ONLY. While price is a valid consideration, aspects such as risk / benefit evaluation, potential exposures for loss and a review of the insurance industry's recent rush to rewrite policies (to limit the rights and options of consumers) has gone unexamined. These are facets of the Insurance Buying decision process that would be critical to your financial security if and when a loss occurs.

Many insurance companies have limited their obligation to pay only for Imitation Body Parts in the event of damage to your covered vehicle. These Imitation Body Parts have been shown to dramatically reduce the resale value of your repaired vehicle. Others may require you to have your vehicle repaired at facilities over whom they have absolute control. This means the insurance company (not you) will decide How (and even IF) certain damage will be repaired. Still other insurance companies have rewritten their policies to limit your rights in the event of a claim settlement dispute. Many insurance companies have rewritten their policies to exclude compensation for the post-repair reduction in resale value of your repaired vehicle (heretofore covered). None of this gets explained to you before you prompt the "Buy" button at some insurance company's Web site.
