In the first 7 years of keeping such records, the Insurance Consumer Advocate Network web site recorded 14 Million Hits from approximately 2,000,000 visitors. Tens-of-Thousands of these visitors have used the Contact Us and Share Your Stories options to seek advice and/or complain about their mistreatment at the hands of insurance companies.
A disturbing number of Consumer complaints have to do with the lack of help received from their state's Department of Insurance !
This Consumer Feedback has clearly demonstrated a pattern of Consumer Abuses on issues such as artificially suppressed claim settlements, run-away premium rate increases and groundless policy cancellations. Over the past several years, civil litigations have documented intentionally abusive, fraudulent (and even criminally fraudulent) conduct which should never have happened.
Whether talking about mandating inferior repairs - underpaying total losses - or imposing unjustified premium rate increases, it is time these issues be legislatively addressed on a broad national scale.
The Insurance Consumer Advocate Network has developed a Policyholders’ Bill of Rights as model legislation we believe should be considered by Congress as a potential Uniform Federal Standard of Conduct for Property & Casualty Insurers. At the very least, this Policyholders’ Bill of Rights should be considered as a Consumer Protection effort by the various State Legislatures.
At a time when Corporate America is defrauding employees and stock holders for the personal gain of its Executives - and the nations largest “Mutual” Insurance Company is caught stashing $ Billions of its policyholders’ money in off-shore “Jack” accounts - It’s time to say . . . “Enough-is-Enough”.
The Policyholders’ Bill of Rights addresses ALL the Consumer Abuses referenced above. Feel free to download - copy - distribute - send to a friend.
